LINE CHARTS

ERA

Michael Lorenzen made his Major League debut on April 29th against the Milwaukee Brewers. His first start was not a Quality Start, but pitched 5 innings with 3 runs. Lorenzen was put into the rotation with the absence of Homer Bailey, who had Tommy John surgery and will be out till next season. Lorenzen has a very small sample size of teams that he has played but dropped his ERA up to 43.33% and it stands at 3.06. Lorenzen has able to pitch well with only allowing no more than 3 runs in each appearance, only allowed 3 runs in 2 appearances.

WHIP

One of Lorenzen’s concerns of being in the MLB is losing control of the pitching counts and allowing walks. Lorenzen’s walks per inning is at 0.59 while hits per inning is at 0.77, resulting at a 1.36 WHIP. It’s currently declining, but it is hard to determine if the decline in WHIP continues since he ranges from 1.39 to 1.68.

RATES

The Rates for Lorenzen that is worth pointing is the BB Rate, it went up 237.41% and ends the month of May at 14.07%, goal for Lorenzen is to get the BB Rate to 5 to 10 percent by the end of June. Another thing worth noting for noting are the Strikeouts, declined at 56.26% in May. Lorenzen is at his range for strikeouts, but if he gets the SO Rate at 15 to 20 percent in June, that’s an accomplishment for Lorenzen.

PER 9

As for mentioning the frequency of Walks for Lorenzen mentioned earlier, the walks spiked up to 193.89% and ended May at 5.29. Goal for Lorenzen would to be at 2-4 walks per 9 innings, could allow no walks in 10.2 innings to get it at 4.00 and 53.1 innings to get it at 2.00, all without allowing a single walk. Another concern for Lorenzen is the ability to strikeout batters, with a 44.33% decline in that category and ended the month with 5.01 strikeouts per 9 innings. If Lorenzen is able to get it to 6 to 9 strikeouts per 9 innings by the end of June, that would be an accomplishment.

STRIKEOUT TO WALK RATIO

This is a huge concern for Lorenzen. Lorenzen this season has the ability to end the day being in the 1.09-1.38 range, but if anything below 0.66 is a huge concern for trying to stay in the MLB. If Lorenzen manages to get his K/BB ratio up to 1.80 with 35 strikeouts to 19 walks in June, then that would be huge confident boost for him.
