Monthly Pitching Report (August)

The Cincinnati Reds found no luck in getting close to playoff contention, and are now in a deeper hole to get back to postseason contention. Only 25 games remain and 19 of those are against division opponents. The best outcome is to sweep Chicago in Wrigley, 4 wins against Milwaukee, 5 wins against St. Louis and take 2 out of 3 against the Pittsburgh Pirates. They start September 1st only 7.5 games back of 1st and could be 7 or 8 back when starting September 2nd. If Milwaukee and St. Louis end up going 87-75, Reds have to go 21-4 just to tie for first. Lot can happen in September (see 2011), it’s all over when there is an E in the Standings, E as in Elimination.
