Game 10 (Tampa Bay Rays vs. Cincinnati Reds)

THUMB

If you’re into pitching, this is the best series for it. Tonight’s matchup is Johnny Cueto and David Price and Saturday’s matchup is Alfredo Simon, who had a nice outing in New York last week, and Alex Cobb, comeback from a head injury last season and resumed playing in the season. The Tampa Bay Rays are coming into Cincinnati with a 5-5 record while the Cincinnati had a limping road trip, losing 2 of 3 in two series against the New York Mets and St. Louis Cardinals to stand at a record of 3-6.

This past offseason, both Cincinnati and Tampa Bay were both involved in trades, Ryan Hanigan was sent to Tampa Bay and Tampa Bay received players from the Diamondbacks. Nonetheless, Tampa Bay won the deal in acquisitions.

The last time these two teams met was in June 2011, the Reds won 2 of 3 in Tampa Bay. This is Tampa Bay’s first visit to Cincinnati since 2005, Cincinnati swept the 3 game series.

Both David Price and Johnny Cueto faced off in that 2011 series, here is the boxscore of that game.

The most interesting thing to point out in Joe Maddon era of Tampa Bay Rays baseball is that he has led his team to 4 postseason appearances in 6 seasons. That is an incredible feat for a small market club. The Reds have done 3 of the past 4 seasons and have the same difficulty as the Rays do to make the postseason this season.

PICK: In good pitching match ups, one must win. The Reds are aware of surroundings of what Great American Ballpark can do, while the Rays don’t know much about it being a hitter’s park. Reds will continue to streak on the good side. Reds 4-3
