On November 12th, the Cincinnati Reds picked up Brayan Pena from the Detroit Tigers. On October 31st, Pena granted free agency. The move had three catchers on the 40 man roster. As of December 3rd, the Reds now have two catchers, Ryan Hanigan was traded to the Tampa Bay in a Three-team deal with Arizona. The Reds received David Holmberg from the Arizona Diamondbacks, who is considered a prospect.
Pena brings in offense and catching partner for Aroldis Chapman, whom he works with in the offseason. Expect Pena to get split time with Devin Mesoraco.

Pena was part of an acquisition that goes in Bryan Price’s favor. Pena will be able to play lots of games. Preferable batting order should be in 6-8 range, based on OPS.
