Skip Schumaker, Cincinnati Reds Free Agent signing #2

On November 18th, the Cincinnati Reds announced that they signed Skip Schumaker to a 2 year $5 million deal. Schumaker played for the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 2013 season, but had played with the St. Louis Cardinals for 7 seasons before being a Los Angeles Dodger.

Schumaker has come in as a bench player, is a utility man and can multiple positions. In 2013, Schumaker played second base and all outfield spots.

Skip Schumaker Splits

Skip Schumaker comes in as an interesting signing for Reds, it will depend how the rest of the Hot Stove season plays out to determine how much playing time he will get. Schumaker should be batting in the 2 hole or 6 hole.

Sam LeCure Splits

The FIP is a Sabermetric tool, which is the new ERA. I’m a fan of it. It measures Home Runs allowed, walks, hit by pitch and strikeouts.

LeCure in 2014:

LeCure will be 1st time Arbitration eligible in 2014, he has made $1,411,500 in his MLB career. LeCure is another pitcher that could be either a set-up man or closer, pending Aroldis Chapman’s decision on starting or relieving. The other candidates for the closer’s job are J.J. Hoover, Sean Marshall and Jonathan Broxton.

JJ Hoover splits

The FIP is a Sabermetric tool, which is the new ERA. I’m a fan of it. It measures Home Runs allowed, walks, hit by pitch and strikeouts.

Hoover in 2014:

Hoover is in pre-arbitration till 2016 and can become a free agent in 2019. If the offseason has Aroldis Chapman in the starting rotation, then Hoover will be considered for the closer role. Hoover will not be guaranteed the closer role because of competition of Sean Marshall, Sam LeCure and Jonathan Broxton.
