Game 109 (San Diego v Cincinnati)

Well, the story goes on for these Cincinnati Reds and their is a new leader on top of the scoreboards, it’s the Pittsburgh Pirates. As of now, the focus is to claim a playoff spot, but that is not good enough in the MLB, MLB teams prefer to claim a division and homefield advantage.

Today, the Reds will unfortunately try to claim a game in San Diego and stop the bleeding of the west coast, which has been a traditional lately.

Game 108 (San Diego v Cincinnati)

These Red legs are looking good, tied for second against the Cardinals at the moment with a 1/2 game behind 1st, with Pittsburgh leading the division.

The statement above is completely false, but could of been true if the offense actually did its job and be productive. Instead of that offense production, they decided to skid with the Cardinals and remain 4 1/2 games (as of 8:00 PM EDT) back of 1st.

The Reds have simply lost their chance to be at the top of the NL Central, wasting away good opportunities, and the Reds can hope for another skid from the Cardinals, I don’t expect that anytime soon. Cincinnati, as a matter of fact, are worried about themselves, I’m sure they understand now that they actually have to beat the Cardinals 2 out of 3 times to gain ground, maybe a sweep would be better.

St. Louis and Pittsburgh have three more games to go and Cincinnati must win tonight to make a rubber match happen tomorrow afternoon in San Diego. My hope is that Pittsburgh can claim first place so I won’t have to worry the Cardinals winning another division, which actually hasn’t happened since 2009, make sure you thank the Cincinnati Reds and Milwaukee Brewers for making that happen.

Now to Game 108

Tonight, it is the team-swap probables of Cincinnati’s Mat Latos and San Diego’s Edinson Volquez. As of July 30, 2013, the trade was a good deal and Cincinnati is not complaining.

For Mat Latos, his time in San Diego lasted 3 seasons, he had 14 wins in 2010 and cumulated a 27-29 3.37 ERA in 72 starts. Latos has also had impressive numbers for Cincinnati, 24-7 3.45 ERA in 54 starts, so by the time he reaches the San Diego 72 starts a 32-9 record.

For the one that was traded, Mr. Edinson Volquez, he was with the Cincinnati Reds for 4 season, won 17 games in 2008 and compiled a 30-18 4.17 ERA in 74 starts, Volquez himself is at 54 starts and is pacing towards 40-24 record.

Game 106 (Los Angeles v Cincinnati)

Today, the Reds wrap up the series against the Dodgers today and hopefully hit the split before going down south to San Diego tonight. As Vin Scully stated in his broadcast on Thursday, the pitching matchups have met their expectations, no frustration needed about inconsistencies of the Reds offense, both teams have excellent pitching. Today, the Reds will be facing a familiar foe in Chris Capuano, who in the past 5 starts against the Reds have been a member of the Milwaukee Brewers and New York Mets, he also has faced the Reds as a Los Angeles Dodger.
